The Manifestation of the Children of God 1John 3:10

Big Idea: Jesus puts on full display his power and glory by producing righteous deeds in and through his people.
1 John 2:28–3:10 (LSB) — 28 And now, little children, abide in Him, so that when He is manifested, we may have confidence and not shrink away from Him in shame at His coming. 29 If you know that He is righteous, you know that everyone also who does righteousness has been born of Him. 1 See how great a love the Father has given to us, that we would be called children of God; and we are. For this reason the world does not know us, because it did not know Him. 2 Beloved, now we are children of God, and it has not been manifested as yet what we will be. We know that when He is manifested, we will be like Him, because we will see Him just as He is. 3 And everyone who has this hope fixed on Him purifies himself, just as He is pure. 4 Everyone who does sin also does lawlessness; and sin is lawlessness. 5 And you know that He was manifested in order to take away sins, and in Him there is no sin. 6 No one who abides in Him sins; no one who sins has seen Him or has come to know Him. 7 Little children, let no one deceive you. The one who does righteousness is righteous, just as He is righteous. 8 The one who does sin is of the devil, because the devil sins from the beginning. The Son of God was manifested for this purpose, to destroy the works of the devil. 9 Everyone who has been born of God does not sin, because His seed abides in him; and he cannot sin, because he has been born of God. 10 By this the children of God and the children of the devil are manifested: everyone who does not do righteousness is not of God, as well as the one who does not love his brother.

What does John mean by the word ________________________?
1 John 3:10 (LSB) — 10 By this the children of God and the children of the devil are manifested…

Manifest: put on __________________ display

Christ will be manifested, Christ has been manifested, and Christ is being manifested in this saints.

Revelation 1:7 (ESV) — 7 Behold, he is coming with the clouds, and every eye will see him, even those who pierced him, and all tribes of the earth will wail on account of him. Even so. Amen.
Colossians 3:3–4 (ESV) — 3 For you have died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God. 4 When Christ who is your life appears, then you also will appear with him in glory.

Romans 3:21-26

John 6:38 (ESV) — 38 For I have come down from heaven, not to do my own will but the will of him who sent me.

Jesus will be manifested in the future unmistakably in power and glory and he was manifested in the past in the incarnation and in his life of perfect righteousness.

How are we to ____________________ the glory of Christ
1John 3:9 Everyone who has been born of God does not sin, because His seed abides in him; and he cannot sin, because he has been born of God. 10 By this the children of God and the children of the devil are manifested: everyone who does not do righteousness is not of God, as well as the one who does not love his brother.

The generative principle of God is so strong in us, that the work of Christ will inevitably produce the very thing that it was intended to produce, which is righteousness in his people.

Matthew 7:16–18 (ESV) — 16 You will recognize them by their fruits. Are grapes gathered from thornbushes, or figs from thistles? 17 So, every healthy tree bears good fruit, but the diseased tree bears bad fruit. 18 A healthy tree cannot bear bad fruit, nor can a diseased tree bear good fruit.
