The Millennial Kingdom: Part 2
Selected Passages
Big Idea: Jesus’ Millennial reign is God’s next stage of redemptive history. In the Millennial Kingdom we see a further demonstration of God’s good and gracious rule over creation.
What is the Millennial Kingdom?
God’s final demonstration of his goodness and glory to the nations through the __________________ and ________________ rule of the Resurrected Christ and his resurrected people for 1,000 years before the New Heavens and the New Earth.
3 ways the plan of God for redemption progresses in the Millennial Kingdom:
- Christ Rules ______________ on Earth.
Acts 1:4-11
John 16:7 (ESV) — 7 Nevertheless, I tell you the truth: it is to your advantage that I go away, for if I do not go away, the Helper will not come to you. But if I go, I will send him to you.
Our ability to live as a demonstration of God’s grace and to overcome the powers of this age is directly connected to Christ’s ascension and his rule at the right hand of the Father now.
Colossians 3:1–4 (ESV) — 1 If then you have been raised with Christ, seek the things that are above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. 2 Set your minds on things that are above, not on things that are on earth. 3 For you have died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God. 4 When Christ who is your life appears, then you also will appear with him in glory.
1Cor. 15:22-26
Then comes the end…
(adverb) When he delivers the kingdom to the Father
(adverb) After destroying every rule and every authority and power.
For (explanatory conjunction) he must reign until he has put all his enemies under his feet…
- Satan is _________________ to the Bottomless Pit.
Rev. 20:1-3
The description of the subjugation of the ‘dragon’ (Satan) continues without a break in the account of the conquest of the evil trinity which had gathered ‘the kings of the whole world … for the battle on the great day of God Almighty’ (16:14). The paragraphs should never have been separated. After the judgment on the antichrist and the false prophet and the multitudes they had deceived, the ultimate enemy is dealt with, namely the devil, who had inspired the rebellion against God. No great contest is necessary; an angel seized him, bound him with a chain, threw him into the Abyss, and locked and sealed it over him—a fourfold means of ensuring that he was removed from all contact with humanity on earth
- God’s people are _______________ Resurrected and Rule with Christ.
Rev. 20:4
Joshua 4:23–24 (ESV) — 23 For the Lord your God dried up the waters of the Jordan for you until you passed over, as the Lord your God did to the Red Sea, which he dried up for us until we passed over, 24 so that all the peoples of the earth may know that the hand of the Lord is mighty, that you may fear the Lord your God forever.”
Questions to Consider
- How does God’s plan for the Millennial Kingdom encourage your heart?
- How ought we conduct ourselves knowing that Christ is returning for his people?
